Sorry I am going to write this one in Portuguese.

But I will start in English. Don´t worry I am just going to promote the learning of the English Language. Many opportunities in my life came about just because I had the opportunity to learn English. Even when I started to teaching at the university (at the course of marketing administration) the book I was using was translate from the original in English. Now I am helping small business owner to do marketing online, I can do this in many countries because I do speak English, and that is such a blessing. Now I am going to explain to my countryman why am I doing a blog in English (for my business) if my native language is Portuguese.

At Unopar University in 2002 (Brasil), at that time we did not have the smart phones of today to take selfies, in the RED circle it is me in the mirror of the restroom.

Eu nao menti !! Agora vou começar a escrever em Portugues explicando o porque Eu sendo brasileiro estou fazendo esse blog em Ingles. 

Ja morei nos EUA (4 anos), no Canada (2 anos) e agora ja esta fazendo 2 anos que estou na China. Mas tenho amigos em varios lugares alem desses paises onde morei, como por exemplo nas Philipinas, na Africa, na India. Uma coisa em comun com todos esses meus amigos e que todos falamos Ingles. Alem disso muitas opportunidades na minha vida aconteceram porque eu falo Ingles. Incluindo a que estou vivendo neste momento, de ensinar na Universidade aqui na China, apesar de ainda nao falar nada em Chines (mandarin).

Talvez Ingles é a melhor escolha de uma lingua estrangeira para quem quem nao fala Ingles, isso porque Ingles hoje representa a lingua mais internacional que qualquer outra, é tambem a lingua dos negocios e transações. No brazil se fala portugues e na china mandarin, mas os negocios entre china e brazil na maioria das vezes sao conduzidos em Ingles.

Se eu falasse apenas o Portugues poderia apenas promover meu negócio online no Brazil, mas obviamente preferi faze-lo em Ingles por razoes obvias. 

E dai vamos aprender Ingles ??? (Porque o mandarin aqui ta dificil, vai ser embaraçoso voltar pro Brazil e olha que ja estou aqui 2 anos e explicar que ainda nao falo nada de chines) 

Two Sides of the Coin

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and that is NOT about a list of things you should do to rank first, on search engines like Google, but instead, is a process of things you do overtime that will improve your rank. 

There is two sides of the coin here. Now think about you are searching for a math course or a Forex book. You want of course to find relevant information on those subjects, quality information that perhaps can solve your problem, you are even willing to buy such a product that can solve your problem in that area. Now if you find only information that is useless and do not solve your problem, your trust in the search engine (or search methodology) will decrease to a point that you will look for another way (or other search engine) to look for what you want to find.

Now you are on the other side, trying to promote your website, if you could easily manipulate a search engine to rank you on the first page without deserving it, people who are looking for meaningful information to solve their problem will find your site useless (remember you end up in first without deserving). So you defeat the whole purpose of why you should appear in the first’s positions.

So… doing SEO it also more than anything else that it is to improve the quality of your website and information you display on it. It would be wise to understand about SEO so that you can take smart step about doing that, improving your rank as well as your product or information on that website.

The idea that higher education is the only way to make money does not belong to this generation

The national Braziliam magazine "VEJA" of this week has an article about the Covid-19 situation "In the pandemic, young people postpone the dream of a university degree"

In this article we read in part: "...there was already a heated discussion about the role of the university in these times when the acquisition of quality knowledge takes place through various means — and evolves at every moment. The current shake-up further forces the institutions to prove themselves decisive in the lives of young people. The idea that higher education is the only way to make money does not belong to this generation, and the moment we are going through helps catalyze that thought"

Degrees and diplomas, or certificates, even schools grades are the efforts to measure knowledge and success, but that is not always the case.... what I meant to say is your diploma is worthless if you cannot deliver the job in the area of your certification. Results speaks at a much higher level than credential. Usually those people who can deliver high results and perform well are the ones who have the diploma and certificate, but again that is not always the case

If you can hire someone base on the "RESULTS" alone, it will be much better. And that is exactly what you can do when hiring someone to do your online marketing. Then you can spend your time doing what you do best (take care of your customers).

Good advertising examples: Tucker 48 - A ingenious Advertising

This is one of  the good advertising examples, where he did advertise this car called "Tucker 48" without spending a dime. You can find the story of the production of this car at Wikipedia, the "Tucker 48".

The 1988 movie Tucker: The Man and His Dream is based on the saga surrounding the car's production. In this movie there is scene where the police chase the car. Preston Tucker took a chance to make that happen in the most crowded parts of the city so that people could see how much better his car was comparing to the police car. That was pure marketing that sometimes not even money can buy. 

Of course as an entrepreneur Preston Tucker did a lot of advertising to sell his car, to attract investors and so on. But I believe he was a smart Guy and saw that ads alone can do so much. That knowledge still apply in todays online market place, your ads will bring much better results if you brand is well known.

If people are commenting and sharing your posts (that is engaging with your business) as they did with Preston after he appears in the newspaper with the police chasing him, you are getting free advertising that works better even the paid adds.

Only 51 cars were made including their prototype before the company was forced to declare bankruptcy and cease all operations on March 3, 1949. 

Better way of doing things.

If you look the 2 pictures in this post, which one of the do you think is a healthy one? I believe most people would agree that one showing a salad was the healthy one. It does not mean that the fried potatoes would not bring any nutrition to your body, but we will know what happen if our meals is always like the potatoes ones.

This salad was me trying to prepare some healthy food at home, I am in china now and I don´t have oven at home, as a University teacher here in china I am used to eat at the canteen with the students, but because of the lockdown do to the covid-19 virus outbreak I was asked to stay home and teach online. I end up eating a lot of salad since the outbreak started....

I have read some theory saying that if you eat healthy 80% of the time you can eat whatever you want for the rest of the time (20%). I don´t know how true this is but it does make a lot of sense.

This other picture it is me and my father eating fried potatoes, it was delicious, it was in my summer vacation in Brazil in 2019, one month later I was back in China for another school year. 

Now lets go back to the title of this post: "Better way of doing things." I am sure you can see the value of eating healthy, that is why most people, me included don´t eat fried potatoes like that all the time, but when we talk about advertising, do you think there is a better way of doing things?

As longs as the ads are bringing results everything is fine. Right ?

If you answer yes, think again. This may the reason many people will never try the "better way", as long as they keep having results with the ads they are posting online. Ads will bring the results immediately and that is so enticing to any business owner, but if you working on what I will call "the foundation" before doing some ads, your results will be so much better, there are even strategies that work at the same time on bringing results immediately as well as working at your foundation.

Message Marketing (a great starting point).

Message Marketing is one of the BEST marketing strategy because it does provide you with costumer now, which is the desire of every business (representing more money now), but also it helps a lot with the foundation you need to have in place when running ads latter if you wish, because if you run ads on top of this foundation your results will be much better (meaning more customer at a cheaper price).

So what it is message marketing?

A: Marketing message, by its very definition, means how an organization communicates to its target audience to talk about itself and what it does. A message strategy should comprise of a positioning statement and some points that support it. Perhaps an offer of your products or services would be the best.

Notice I am NOT talking about sending messages to ANYONE, this would be like running ads, trying to convince people to become your customers, but instead sending messages to your clients (you should have a list of them with e-mails and phone numbers at least)

Such messages represent a few important things to your customers:

● You know them and care for them

● You care enough to remember them when running specials or promotions that they can take advantage off if they only knew about them

● You are care about your business and are trying to improve by making your clients happy

This can lead to another thing you could do which is “Reputation Management” but to start with Message marking is indeed a good start, also a very cheap service to implement and will give you a very good idea the power of starting advertising online.

It happens in Nature, also in dating, perhaps also in Marketing.

The following video that was recorded at the shores of lake Ontario of my dog chasing ducks (2003) brought me to a reflection I never thought before. Most of us go about chasing of what we want in life, our dream, our wants, it could be anything even the partner we want. But what if the best approach is not to chase them?

As you could see while she was chasing ducks they, they went away from her, this was the beginning of the video, but when we call her and she starts to come back , the ducks flip and start to follow her. That observation was amazing to me... What if the answer is not always to be in the pursue, but also to let them pursuing you?

As I did get divorce in 2014, I did start making friends being open to the possibility of perhaps get married again, anyway I have no problem to approaching girls and let them know I find them cute, otherwise how do they suppose to know I like them? But if they don´t reciprocate or show any interest in me I will not keep begging for attention, and that turns well for me...

What about in Marketing ? If you don´t advertise no one will probably notice you. So this is what I am doing here, but I suppose if you don´t see the value in the service I provide as a marketing consultant, I see no point in begging you to be my client, that is why this advertising is here, to educate the client of the value of the service and tell them I would be happy to provide the service (the same as me telling the girl she is cute). But for sure it is no good to have a client that doesn´t see the value of your service.

 Nikki Nelson does a great job explaining that Effective advertising makes people remember your name, that is awesome post I would recommend.
