Create a Work-Life Balance that Works for You

Finding a work-life balance is good for both your physical and mental health. But many times, heavy job responsibilities steal that balance away. When that happens, both our work and home life can suffer unwanted consequences.

But how can you achieve that balance and still excel at your job?

Use these strategies to create the work-life balance you seek:

1. Avoid checking your work emails outside the office. While in the office, you’ll probably check your work emails often to ensure that any meetings and deadlines are met. However, checking them when you’re off work allows your work life to encroach on your home life.

● Set boundaries with yourself and your work colleagues regarding emails, so that you can take care of work communications only while at work.

2. Learn to say no. You may love your job, but it’s usually unnecessary to be available to your boss 24/7. We all need a break occasionally, and there is nothing wrong with saying no once in a while. Especially outside of your allotted work hours.

3. Work smarter, not harder. Instead of working all hours of the day, with very little rest, work smarter. You’ll actually get more done in a shorter period of time.

● Prioritize important tasks and do these tasks first each day. This way, the most important things always get done.

● Avoid unproductive activities, such as unstructured meetings or constantly checking your social media accounts.

4. Leave work at work. This may be hard, and may not always be possible, but when you clock off for the day, make a mental note that work has finished.

● Perhaps take a moment to acknowledge that work has finished by stopping and taking a breath before your commute home. The reason for this is to ensure that you are not bringing the work and any stress associated with it home.

5. You don’t need to be perfect. Have you ever been on your way out of the office, only to turn back around because you thought of a way to make a report or task perfect? Sometimes, it pays to remind yourself that you and your work are good enough.

6. Focus on things outside work. For some of us, our work is our life, but what happens if one day we lose our job? Where does that leave us? It may be a scary thought, but it’s important to have a life outside work.

● Develop some hobbies that interest you. Spending time doing something that you love reduces stress and energizes you while relaxing you and uplifting your mood. Add some “happy time” to your life!

7. Make your own rules. There has been a shift in work attitudes, especially among younger workers. More people - even bosses - are recognizing the value of work-life balance. Come up with your own ideas that will help you separate your work from your home life and run them by your boss. They might just agree!

Finding a balance between work and your home life can be difficult, but it’s well worth the effort!

How to teach Math. Effective Assessment and Feedback Strategies for Teaching Math.

As a math teacher, you understand the importance of assessment and feedback in ensuring your students are learning and growing. However, it can be challenging to find effective methods for assessing and providing feedback that truly support student learning. That's why I'm excited to share some strategies for assessment and feedback. I did also taught a course in how to teach math at Huzhou University in 2019, which I have since transformed into an online training course available at https://mgameirollc.uteach.io/bundles/how-to-teach-math-4-chapters.

One effective method for assessing student learning in math is through formative assessments. Formative assessments are low-stakes assessments that are used to provide feedback to both the teacher and the student about how well the student is understanding the material. This can be accomplished through quizzes, exit tickets, or other short assessments that provide a snapshot of student understanding.

Another effective method is through the use of rubrics. Rubrics provide a clear and detailed outline of what is expected from students on an assignment or project, allowing for more specific feedback that is tailored to the learning goals. This allows students to see where they excelled and where they need improvement, and provides a clear path for growth.

Providing timely and constructive feedback is also important for student learning in math. Feedback should be specific and focused on the learning objectives, highlighting areas of strength and areas for improvement. This feedback should be given in a timely manner, allowing students to make necessary adjustments and continue to progress in their learning.

Finally, incorporating self-assessment and peer assessment can be an effective way to help students take ownership of their learning and develop their understanding of math concepts. Self-assessment involves having students reflect on their own learning and progress, while peer assessment allows students to provide feedback to one another, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

In conclusion, assessment and feedback are critical components of effective math instruction. By using formative assessments, rubrics, timely feedback, and incorporating self-assessment and peer assessment, you can support your students in their learning and help them achieve success in math.

How to Balance Your Life Without Overspending

Maybe one of the big advantages of been your own boss is to be able to have a flexible time, and be in control of your life without to have to be given reports to someone else, but we forget that we also need to have a balance life or our own body will send the bill later, in form of  sickness, burnout... So make no mistake every one needs to relax and balance life.

The topic of mental health is broad, and there are many different ways to affect various aspects of your life. When most people think of mental health, they think about stress, anxiety, and depression. However, many more factors can affect your mental health, including physical health.

Research says that for many people, there is a link between physical health and mental health, and vice versa. So, maintaining a healthy amount of exercise in your day can improve your mental health.

If you exercise regularly, your general level of stress will decrease, making it easier for you to handle other pressures as well.

But physical health is not the only aspect that affects mental health. Social, economic, and even spiritual factors affect mental health. And honestly speaking, you can only incorporate all these factors through proper balance in your life.

So how do you balance your life in all these aspects without spending too much time, money, and effort? Consider these tips:

1. Take regular breaks and vacations. Everyone deserves breaks and vacation time from work. In our society, however, we rarely give ourselves these breaks and tend to push ourselves to the point of exhaustion. Eventually, however, this leads to burnouts and eventually to mental breakdowns.

● So instead of pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion, consider taking regular breaks that will allow you to rejuvenate yourself.

● You don't always have to take a full-blown vacation to spend quality time with yourself. Sometimes, a few weeks off work is all you need to feel better and free yourself from the stress of the workplace.

 2. Try losing balance to find your balance. Letting yourself go of the need to control everything in your life can help you gain better control over it. Go out for a run without following your fitness routine.

● Spend a day eating whatever you want. Try to do something different from your routine. That's not to say you need to discard the thought of balancing your priorities but try to let go of your need for control.

● Letting go of control enables you to accept what life throws at you without worrying too much. And then work to find balance in the long run rather than at every point in your life.

3. Take note of your health. This tip applies to everyone, not just those who need to work on mental health. Having a health check-up at least once every six months will keep you from developing serious health issues and prevent you from dealing with mental issues in the future.

● A check-up will reveal issues you may be ignoring and that need to be addressed. Don't wait until it's too late.

4. Spend some quality alone time. Many people find it difficult -- even unnecessary -- to make time for themselves. They think that taking time for themselves is less important than spending time with others, but that's not the case at all.

● You can be happier if you take some time for yourself each week to do something you enjoy. So, you've set aside some alone time, now what? Spend that time doing something relaxing, such as reading a book or watching a movie.

 ● After you finish, reflect on what you have done. Were you able to relax? Did you learn something new about yourself? What have your experiences taught you? These are all excellent questions and ones you can answer after you’ve taken time for yourself.

5. Recognize that you can't do everything by yourself. You are human. And humans need each other. Develop awareness of your strengths and weaknesses and ask for help when you need it.

● You may be surprised how good it feels to be supported by a friend, family member, or significant other. And that sense of togetherness can be a powerful motivator toward your goals.

Remember that you can achieve balance in life without spending too much money, effort, or time. The key to achieving balance is to find a way to make all the different aspects of your life work together. That's how you'll achieve true happiness and fulfillment in your day-to-day life.

What are analytics?

Analytics are reporting tools that allow the user to view key statistics on the performance of their site. These statistics have expanded significantly since 2005 and now include some advanced data sets such as real time, demographics, social media, attribution, multichannel and cross-device data.

There are many tools available to track your digital data and these can be broken down into several areas. Five of the most common of these here:

1● Web analytics
Web analytics is the tool that we are usually referring to when discussing analytics. It is the tool that collects and reports on all of the key data on the performance of our website. There are many tools available with very strong offerings and it is important to consider your needs when selecting which
tool to move forward with.

The standard data you should expect to get from your web analytics tool includes the following: ● Page views, visits, unique visitors, bounce rate, session duration. ● New versus returning visitors: users who have visited before or not. ● Language and location: helpful for geographical purposes. ● Demographics: data on the user’s high-level information such as age. ● Device type, make and model: technical data on your device hardware. ● Browser, resolution and operating system: technical data on your device software. ● Traffic source: which pages people came from.

2● Social analytics
Social analytics refers to the tools used to monitor the effectiveness of social media. Social media itself  is a relatively young channel and so the tools used continue to evolve. There are, however, some very clear metrics that should be monitored to determine the effectiveness of your social strategy. They are content and promotion.
In order to understand how your content is resonating with your audience you need to have visibility of how users are engaging with this content, what topics are the most popular and to whom, when users engage and on what device. All of these questions are vital if you are to understand how to deliver content that will interest your customers and prospects.

Some of the key metrics you should be considering here are as follows: ● Reach: the total users mentioning your brand plus their followers. ● Engagement: the people taking an action on your content. ● Average engagement rate: the average rate of people who took action versus people who saw your content. ● Impressions: the number of times your content has been seen. ● Visits: the total number of times people have been to your site/page. ● Unique visitors: the total number of individuals who have been to your site/page. ● Bounce rate: people arriving and then leaving without visiting another page. ● Click-through rate: the percentage of people who see your content and click through to the end location. ● Conversion rate: the percentage of people who buy versus those who arrived on your site or began a purchase journey. ● Sales: total number of sales ● Response rate: the percentage of people who have in some way responded to your content. ● Mentions: the number of times that your brand has been mentioned. ● Followers: the number of followers you have on any or all networks. ● Buzz: combination of a number of factors that suggest how popular you are right now. ● Share of voice: the number of conversations about you versus your competition. ● Sentiment: reviewing the types of message about you for positive and negative sentiment.

3● SEO analytics
SEO analytics is the method of tracking the signals that dictate your overall organic search performance. Without using specific tools for this purpose, you will be blind to your achievements or risks within this space. This is an area that is often overlooked or misunderstood due to the rather secretive nature of the channel. Search engines have long hidden their methods from public view and have even removed SEO metrics from analytics tools altogether. For example, Google Analytics gradually increased the percentage of ‘not provided’ keyword results in its organic search metrics to the point where almost nothing could be gained from looking at this data. Also, simply searching Google for your site may return a ranking but this is just one ranking for one term on one day and is subject to significant change. That result may also be affected by your previous behavior through a cookie. Specific SEO tools are therefore needed and these can report on SEO signals. When combined these give a powerful view of your overall SEO performance and the areas to focus on to improve performance.
SEO metrics that can be monitored include: ● inbound links (or backlinks) and link quality; ● search visibility; ● crawl errors; ● site speed; ● broken links; ● rank tracking; ● competitor backlinks; ● brand monitoring.

*** Course: SEO Basics

4● user experience
User experience tools include everything from ensuring that the user is having a pleasant experience to optimizing conversion, and more. The tools in this area are varied and can offer a great deal of insight on behaviors. Some of the outputs are less quantifiable than the other analytics tools as they will show
only the behavior not the cause or intent. For example, if you are viewing a heatmap of user behavior and you see that your new homepage design has led to more users focusing on your secondary content, and fewer on your primary content, then you can decide that the change has had a negative effect and choose to revert the design to the previous version. You will not, however, know whether this was caused by the new content that you have released, the colors, layout or even macro factors such as what
is in the news. You also will not know what the users intended when they arrived. Perhaps the new design performs better for different organic keywords and so you are now attracting a different user group to your site and they are more interested in the secondary content. User experience tools give you the opportunity to test different theories and optimize towards these to create the best possible outcome for the user and your goals.

5● tag management.
Tag management is a solution that is implemented by many larger organizations in order to make the implementation of other systems easier and to solve some issues that tags create. Tags are pieces of code that you put into your website code in order to fulfil certain tasks such as monitoring traffic or understanding visitor data. Tag management is therefore not a pure analytics tool itself but is worth looking at alongside the above tools, as it should be considered simultaneously.
