Segmentation

Perhaps you want to run some ads for your business. If you just ran the ads without the concept below your results will be far below of what it could be. If you were following my blog and youtubechannel you will notice that I do advocate that ads have a much better results if you have a proper foundation before running them. This foundation is explained in one of my youtube video here.

Anyway try to grasp this concept before looking into running ads, or if you need help… please reach out for help, that is why I am here for.

Segmentation

Personalization, which is the ultimate goal of tailored communications and is far more possible than it was just 10 years ago. It is, however, still vitally important to understand segmentation as well. Consumers will always have similarities in their behaviors, demographics, buying patterns and other factors that enable you to group them into segments. This enables smarter, more appropriate

targeting and messaging within your marketing communications. These groups will have different uses for products and varying perspectives on services. Their lifestyles will be inherently different as will be their needs, aspirations, opinions and much more.

Five common forms of segmentation – geographic, demographic, behavioral, benefit and psychographic – are listed below, including the advantages and disadvantages of each alongside how businesses use these methods.

 1) Geographic

Perhaps the simplest of all segmentation strategies, this is quite simply the location of the individuals being analysed. Businesses that have regional retail outlets will have some focus on this but it can also prove a useful tool to understand where to target your marketing. That could be outdoor or press advertising but from a digital perspective it may inform your geo-targeting or data selection for your strategy. The disadvantage is quite simply that this is very basic and tells you next to nothing about the individuals themselves.

2) Demographic

A very common form of segmentation, demographics includes factors such as age, race, gender, education, employment, income and economic status. It is therefore an area of segmentation that gives a reflection of the characteristics of a group of people. Demographic segmentation is used by governments and a very broad range of organizations as it can answer questions such as ‘Who can afford to buy my product?’ and ‘Will this group of consumers be the right age range for my product?’

The disadvantage of this type of segmentation is that there is a large assumption that people with similar characteristics will behave similarly, which is far from the truth. If someone is a French, 45-year-old factory worker who has had a poor education will they behave the same way as all their colleagues in the factory who are of roughly the same age? No. They will have different passions, hobbies and much more. To understand this in more detail we need to understand behavioral segmentation.

3) Behavioral

Behavioral segmentation is becoming increasingly possible. It has historically been difficult to understand consumer behavior but in the big data world we are able to understand consumers a lot more, especially those in the digital space. This method groups consumers by buying patterns and usage behaviors. This is an excellent way of talking to individuals in a way that is highly likely to resonate with them. It is useful when talking about specific products or use occasions.

Behavioral does not of course give such a black-and-white view as demographic segmentation and therefore is not an exact science. For example, behavior can change with your lifestyle. Divorce, children and retirement are key examples of when life changes could result in behavior changes. It is therefore vital to be working with data that is up to date. With behavioral segmentation you have the advantage of being highly relevant to your audience whilst also running the risk of missing the mark completely.

 4) Benefit

Something that is vital to understand in marketing, and in fact business in general, is that perception is key. How you are perceived will impact your career – we all know the clichés about first impressions. Well, this form of segmentation is based around consumer perceived benefit. Many businesses use this to understand the consumer base and to inform product development and marketing opportunities. A good example of this is the fashion

industry. If you imagine retailers of coats and jackets: some consumers will look for warm winter coats for their ski holidays, some for all-weather jackets for their outdoor lifestyle, some for lightweight jackets they can wear whilst exercising, some for smart coats for work and some purely for fashion. The perceived benefit of your coat will appeal differently to each different segment, so perhaps you need to change the perception of your coat or bring out a new range to appeal to a new segment.

 5) Psychographic

Psychographic segmentation sounds exceptionally complex but it is simply an understanding of a consume’s lifestyle. This includes studying activities, opinions, beliefs and interests. Understanding these elements can, similarly to behavioral segmentation, result in messaging and products that truly resonate with the individuals. For example, individuals may be environmentalists, Buddhists, body builders or movie lovers (or any combination of these). Creating segments on this basis creates a more ‘real’ view of the individuals than geographic or demographic segmentation ever could.

Personas

By pulling together the above five forms of segmentation you can create personas, as per the example shown in the picture. These are effectively descriptions of your segments. Most businesses will create between five and ten of these, as too few results in large groups that are too generic and too many can result in segments that are too small or overcomplicate the targeting approach.

An excellent product without marketing is not good as much as a bad product with good marketing.

The title of this article is to say that IT doesn´t matter how good you are, if no one knows that you will not get hired easily, in fact the title is talking about a product, but it doesn´t matter too, because the concept can be applied in both situations.

After one year in China when the time comes for me to renew my teaching contract I was wondering what if I could not renew the contract, could I be able to find a job anywhere else?

I realized that I still did have my job back in brazil, I was on my 2 years license, and because of that I wasn´t to much concerned about it, but I did not wanted to go back to Brazil yet. At that time if I had to look for another job, I did not knew how good my chances were to get another one.

I decide to chance that or improve my chances, even thou my students like me and thought I was a good teacher no one else knew that. I  start to do some marketing..... of  myself

1) I did start collecting from my best students some letter of reference (on the end of this article you can one of those)

2) I did a video of self introduction as many employers would ask that to have a first impression of you, I did not stop there,...  Now I have many videos on YouTube about my teaching experience, one of them are the recording of one of my extra lectures I did as a volunteer.

3) I started increasing my network among the students, not my own students, but from other courses at the university, my strategy was simple and effective. I never eat alone at the university canteen, that alone was responsible for many acquaintances. Now after 3 years in China, sometimes I have a job offer that came from the advertising of some students I meet at the canteen or English corner activity

4) I did published a paper on a Conference here in China. My paper was about improving someone's interpersonal skills and confidence, that has everything to do of what I am doing doing, not been shy, talking to everybody, never loose a chance to make a friend every where I go. Next year they invite me again to participate on another conference, I could not go but here is clip of me giving my blessing to the participants

5) Since I was already preparing a lot of material to teach at the university, I did a little extra work and convert those material on a online class at the Udemy platform.

I could stay teaching my classes at the university without bothering in doing anything of those things I just point out, I did not have to do any of those things. I must say trying out those new things as in a pretext of marketing myself I did not only increase my employability, but also make my experience in china so much more enjoyable

Recommendation letter for Marcelo Gameiro:

Changsha / Hunan / China - February 23, 2020

 To Whom It May Concern:

As a student of Hunan University of Finance and Economics, I’m writing the recommendation letter with great sincerity to furnish you with my knowledge of my teacher Marcelo Gonçalves Gameiro in support of his application to work in your company/university. If this letter be of any assistant of your processing of his application, I will be much delighted.

At first, let me introduce myself briefly, I am a junior from HUFE (Changsha) and my major is accounting. In the second half of 2018, I worked as a foreign teacher assistant in the Office's International Exchange and Cooperation Office of the college, and was responsible for welcoming foreign teachers and familiarizing them with the campus environment, that’s why I first met Marcelo, therefore Marcelo is not only my teacher of securities investment, but also my foreign friend.

Next, I would like to elaborate my outlook of Marcelo from the perspective of a student and friend. I hope these will help you to know Mr. Gameiro better. Marcelo has all the requirements for a good teacher. He is tempting, patient, careful and responsible. I remember that in the first class, because the students were not used to teaching in English, and the subject of securities investment was quite difficult, some students did not give much concentrate in the class. Marcelo noticed that in time and communicated with me after class. After figured out the specific situation, he changed the teaching method. In the following courses, Marcelo inserted a lot of interesting pictures in the PPT and used his own personal experience as a case to analyze, the enthusiasm of the students has improved significantly

Marcelo not only devoted himself to teaching, but also helped students to establish the right values. He encouraged students to try more new things, study extensively and never stop learning. He said some words to me which impressed me so far, “Your education, your knowledge, is the only thing that anyone can’t take away from you.” His guidance helped me at that time, refreshing the perception of a freshman who was still in the ignorant stage. I studied harder and seized every opportunity to improve myself. At present I have received a national scholarship and got good performance in some competitions. After one year, I am going to the UK to get further study. None of these achievements can separate from Marcelo's guidance to me when I was in college. Every time I share some of my progress and achievements with him, he is sincerely congratulate and happy for me, because he not only treats students as the person of imparting knowledge, but also friends who can make progress together.

I sincerely hope my recommendation will receive your favorable consideration and please do not hesitate to inquire further if I can be of help to you.

Sincerely, Li Jing (Iris)

Why online marketing is such a powerful tool to promote your business.

A school of thought advocates that the quality of the products and services offered is the most singular factor necessary for a business to advance its prospects. The proponents of this approach believe that once the quality of goods and services is top-notch, the client will be happy. They advocate that a satisfied customer will return to order for more of such services or goods. While that may be true, a novel emerging approach notes that although the quality of products and services is crucial, it is not enough to keep a business floating. A business grows, develops, and becomes profitable as its revenue base expands. A satisfied customer will come back, but with marketing strategies in place, one happy customer can reach and persuade 50 others. Thus, excellent quality must go hand-in-hand with an efficient marketing system to boost a business by creating a wide range of customer outreach.

In this book you can find the best guide to take advantage of one of the most efficient and cheaper ways of doing marketing today.

How to use this tracker from LeadsLeap for FREE to monitor your real traffic.

Make no mistake, there will be traffic on your website that will generate from bots and fake sources. Sometimes you will be paying for ads from a less than a reputable source to get some traffic. How to know the difference from real traffic from the fake ones. And if you can prove the traffic is not real, good for you - you can cancel the service and even ask for a refund. The main advantage is to stop paying for ads or services that are not delivering what they promise.

What can it track?

1) Total clicks (most trackers can only give you this)

2) Unique visit

3) Real visit (proprietary)

4) Response (proprietary)

5) Conversion

6) Surfing duration (proprietary)

7) Traffic source (automatic + custom source on the fly!)

8) Country

How does the Tracker differentiate clicks from real visits?

The Tracker monitors browser's visibility and user activities such as mouse movement, scrolling, finger browsing and clicking.

If someone opens your link in the background and never really look at it, or if it is a click from web spider, robots or some kind of software, the tracker will register no activity from the click.

On the other hand, if it is a genuine visit, the system should register at least 1 second of surfing activity.

Using this methodology, we can effectively differentiate clicks from visits, by defining a Real Visit as a click with at least 1 second of activity.

How is surfing duration measured?

Every 5 seconds, the Tracker will re-monitor the user activities such as mouse movement, scrolling, finger browsing and clicking. If any of the activities is detected, the Tracker will increase the surfing duration by 5 seconds.

If no activity is measured in a 5 second interval, the surfing duration will remain unchange, until the next 5 seconds.

The surfing durations will be presented it in a chart like this:

What is bad for some people is always good for other people.

You can take this as an opportunity. What I meant is when something bad happen it because of what side are you in. Let me give you an example and everything will be more clear: when the light goes out (bad for most people) the ones who are in the business of manufacturing candles may see a increase in sales. So instead of always blaming for the bad who happen in your life, perhaps you can exercise your faculties to see what is the good you can make out of that.

Few days ago (July 20, 2021) we had a flooding here in the city where I just move in. That was really bad new for almost everyone, my social media was flooding also with videos from disasters who happen because of the flooding, like the picture below

Left side was inside of subway train, and right side was outside on the streets

We all are humans, and as such we follow the natural tendency of everyone else, I also could not see anything good out of the flooding here, but the next day I needed to go out to buy food, it was not raining and it was fine to go out, in front of the store inside of the condominium there was a construction that look like a swimming pool, it was a big water mirror for decoration purpose, it was dry for a long time I suppose. what a surprise when see what is happening there...

All the kids were playing in the water, it was fun for them and nothing could be better than go outside to play at the "swimming pool". So as you can see the level of the water, it must have been raining a lot, because that place was completely dry before yesterday.

This is a lesson for all of us, and it serve for almost anything in life, you can always find a positive side in almost anything, and perhaps also the opportunity you were looking for a long time.

Perhaps you can share below in the comments what was a bad thing that happen to you, that in the end, it turn out to be a good thing, or you saw the opportunity and took advantage of...
